3D Design
Often, as an introductory project in beginning 3D Design and Sculpture classes, I will ask students to recreate their favorite shoe using only masking tape. The goal is to duplicate ever detail paying close attention to the planes that create the structure of the shoe, as well as texture, weight, and scale. This is a fun project to start the semester. It emphasizes problem-solving skills using a relatively forgiving medium. It asks students to examine the qualities, limitations, and advantages of the given material. It also provides me, as the instructor, some initial insight into my students ability to manipulate materials.
